Baird in, Ambrose out as Environment Minister in federal Cabinet shuffle
OTTAWA, ONT-Prime Minister Stephen Harper launched the new year with a widely-anticipated Cabinet shuffle, naming John Baird Minister of Environment to replace Rona Ambrose. The latter has been appointed president of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of Western Economic Diversification. Vic Toews will take Baird's previous post as president of the Treasury Board. The January 3 announcement also included the creation of a new Cabinet committee on the environment and energy security. Its stated mandate will be to pursue practical, results-oriented solutions to decrease Canada's greenhouse gas emissions, reduce pollution and improve the health and well-being of Canadians.Table of Contents
