Nominations sought for Quebec Phènix environment awards
QUEBEC CITY, QUE-Nominations are due by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 for Quebec's 2005 Phènix environmental awards. New categories have been added to this year's awards, for a total of 13 to be presented in six categories. These include: protection, restoration or enhancement of the environment from a sustainable development perspective; reduction, re-use, recycling or reclamation of residual materials; education and awareness; research and development; environmental concept; and youth action. Winners will be selected by an independent jury of seven representatives from the environmental and related sectors, with the awards presented by Environment Minister Thomas Mulcair on June 9. The PhÈnix awards were established by the Quebec Ministries of Environment and of Economic and Regional Development and Research, along with Recyc-Quèbec, the provincial recycling agency, Quebec Selective Collection and the Quebec Environment Foundation. Other sponsors include Alcan, Cascades, Tetra Pak, Unical, the Montreal newspaper Le Devoir, the Union of Agricultural Producers and the Quebec Alcohol Board, which is providing a $5,000 prize to be awarded to a non-profit group in the materials reclamation category.Table of Contents
