Federal program supports environment sector employment projects

CALGARY, ALTA-Under its Sector Council program, the federal government is providing a total of $1.94 million to support two projects by the Calgary-based Canadian Council of Human Resources in the Environment Industry (CCHREI). The Building Environmental Aboriginal Human Resources (BEAHR) project ($1.39 million) has a long-term goal of increasing Aboriginal employment in the environment sector by 6,000 jobs over the next 15 years. This project is a partnership between CCHREI and the Aboriginal Human Resource Development Council of Canada (AHRDCC). CCHREI offers two credentials: the Canadian Certified Environmental Practitioner and the Canadian Environmental Practitioner in Training. The objective of the CCHREI-Canadian Environment Certification Approvals project ($546,600) is to confirm these two credentials as the national voluntary standard for environmental employment.
