Globe Electric establishes company-wide environmental program

MONTREAL, QUE-Globe Electric, a Montreal-based manufacturer of consumer lighting and electrical products, has launched a company-wide environmental program aimed at incorporating "green" practices into every aspect of its business, from products to packaging to production. One notable initiative has been the development of new packaging for Globe's enersaver(R) product line. Traditional clamshell packaging, which requires large amounts of plastic, has been replaced with packaging made primarily from paperboard. The company says the new packaging is sleek, refined and leaves a much smaller environmental footprint. Globe has also constructed a "Globe enersaver(R) House" in its Montreal showroom. This miniature model home features Energy Star(R)-approved Globe enersaver(R) products as they would be found in real-life settings, as a way of helping customers visualize their use and value. Within its operations, Globe has made the 3Rs a priority, encouraging its employees to reduce waste by using reusable dishes and cutlery, re-use paper and office supplies, recycling paper, plastic and aluminum cans and storing files electronically rather than printing them. More information is available on Globe's Web site,
