October 1-3: The Air and Waste Management Association (A&WMA) is presenting a specialty conference on Managing Ship Emissions and Effluents with Emphasis on Eastern Canada and the North Atlantic Seaboard in Montreal. The program is divided into five sessions which will address international drivers to control emissions and effluents from shipping operations, Canada's experience and initiatives related to pollution from shipping activities, the role of industry in protecting shipping channels, experiences in managing ship-related pollution, and advancements in technology for abating ship emissions and effluents. The keynote address will be given by Bill Nash, director general, marine safety for Transportation Canada. Speakers from organizations such as Holland America, SNC Lavalin, Shell Canada, Environment Canada, the Vancouver Port Authority, the Canadian Ship Owners Association and the Canadian Petroleum Products Institute will also address the conference.
