Natural gas supplier offers carbon-neutral fixed-rate plan

VANCOUVER, BC-Direct Energy is offering British Columbia residents a carbon-neutral fixed-rate price plan for natural gas. Said to be a first in Canada, this environmentally friendly option is one of several being rolled out by the company as new regulations take effect in BC allowing residential consumers to choose their natural gas supplier for the first time in the province's history. Direct Energy's fixed-price plans are being offered for terms of one, three or five years. Each plan guarantees a stable rate for the duration of the contract. For customers who choose the green option, Direct Energy will buy certified carbon emission credits to offset 100% of the greenhouse gases released when natural gas is consumed. The carbon-neutral option is available on all of the company's fixed-rate plans being offered in BC. "British Columbia's new competitive residential gas market allows us to offer customers the option to significantly reduce their carbon footprint at home. Today is an exciting day not only for long-awaited consumer choice, but also for environmental sustainability," said Clinton Roeder, Direct Energy's senior vice-president of energy services.
