GreenAlberta site provides data on environmentally sound building products

EDMONTON, ALTA-A new Web site, www.GreenAlberta.ca, will provide industry and the public information on the best environmentally sound building products manufactured or available in Alberta. The site will:

*help consumers make informed choices when selecting building materials;

*direct architects and builders to suppliers of green building materials; and

*highlight Alberta green building products manufacturers.

To help homeowners select the most environmentally sustainable house paint, for example, GreenAlberta.ca would list various paint products, toxicity levels, recycling and disposal options, where it was manufactured and how far it had to be transported to the local paint store. The Web site also features information on the R-value of insulated concrete forms and structural insulated panels, as well as the benefits of energy-efficient heating systems, solar panels, on-demand hot water tanks, roofing tiles made from recycled tires, etc. The GreenAlberta.ca Web site will be operated by EcoAmmo and funded by industry members and users through subscriptions. The provincial government has contributed $18,000 toward the initial development and launch of the site.
