Lake Utopia Paper charged with permit violation

ST GEORGE, NB-The New Brunswick Department of Environment has charged a St George-area pulp and paper mill with violating a condition of its water quality approval.

The charge alleges that on August 30, 2006, JD Irving, operating as Lake Utopia Paper of Utopia, NB, failed to ensure that wastewater being discharged from the facility and/or the wastewater treatment plant to the environment is non-acutely lethal to rainbow trout, as required by a condition of its permit. A court date has been set in St Stephen for April 10, 2007.
