New Brunswick renews air quality permits for Bowater Maritime, Weyerhaeuser
FREDERICTON, NB-In two recent permit approval decisions, New Brunswick Environment Minister Roland HachÈ said Bowater Maritime's air quality operating approval for its pulp and paper mill in Dalhousie will be renewed for a five-year term, effective April 1, 2007. He also announced approval of a similar permit for Weyerhaeuser's Miramichi mill, also for a five-year term, effective March 31, 2007. Both renewals followed a public consultation exercise, including 120-day public review periods. Haché noted that in the case of the Bowater renewal, there were no issues raised by the public that require further formal consideration. The Weyerhaeuser approval was based on consideration of written comments submitted by the public. Reviews of both permit renewal applications examined supporting documentation, which included a facility profile, draft and intended approvals, and summaries of issues raised and responses to those issues as applicable.
