Essex Conservation Authority honours Great Lakes Renewal Foundaton
ESSEX, ONT-The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) recently presented its 2006 Environmental Achievement Award to the Ontario Great Lakes Renewal Foundation (OGLRF), in recognition of the Foundation's significant contribution to cleaning up the Great Lakes. ERCA chairman Ray Renaud noted that the Environmental Achievement award "is given only to those organizations that in our minds have, in a tangible way, enhanced the region's renewable natural resources - water, soil, flora and fauna. Certainly, we are very grateful for the tremendous assistance that the Ontario Great Lakes Renewal Foundation has provided to the Essex Region." To date, the Foundation has provided more than $2 million to projects in Essex Region, generating more than $4 million in restoration work in this area. "Since its inception the Foundation has leveraged over $6 million to bring about more than $28 million in rehabilitation and restoration work in environmental hot spots around the Great Lakes, identified in the 1987 International Joint Commission Water Quality Agreement, which have been designated as Areas of Concern," said OGLRF president and CEO Don Robinson.
