Greenfield Ethanol signs technology, engineering deals with ICM, SNC-Lavalin

GreenField Ethanol has signed agreements with ICM, a company specializing in the design and construction of ethanol plants, to provide technology and engineering services for GreenField's 200-million-litre ethanol plant under construction in Johnstown, Ontario.

The agreement gives GreenField licence to use ICM's intellectual property for the design, construction and operation of the eastern Ontario plant, slated to begin operation in 2008. The two companies have also entered into an engineering services licence agreement, commissioning ICM to provide engineering services for the plant.

In addition, GreenField has signed a contract with SNC-Lavalin to carry out the detailed engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) for the Johnstown facility. Under the contract, SNC-Lavalin will provide EPCM services for the plant, based on ICM technology.

The Johnstown plant will be among the company's largest ethanol facilities with a capacity of 200 million litres per year. ICM technology was also used in GreenField's plant in Varennes, Quebec, and GreenField and SNC-Lavalin undertook the same type of agreement for the Varennes facility, which will be opening in February.

GreenField Ethanol, formerly Commercial Alcohols, produces 215 million litres a year of corn-based ethanol at its plants in Chatham and Tiverton, Ontario. In addition to Johnstown, GreenFields has another plant under construction in Hensall, Ontario, also slated for opening in 2008. At that point, GreenField Ethanol will be one of the top producers in North America, with five operating plants together producing more than 700 million litres of ethanol per year.

Founded in 1995 and based in Kansas, ICM is an industry leader in the design, construction and support of ethanol plants using corn grain. The SNC-Lavalin group of companies (www.snclavalin.com) provide engineering, construction, infrastructure, operations and maintenance services throughout Canada. They have branch operation in 30 other countries around the world and are currently working in some 100 countries.
