Pauline Browes, Janet Benjamin named to NRTEE
OTTAWA, ONT-Former Minister of State for the Environment Pauline Browes has been appointed to the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE), along Janet Benjamin, a management consultant and professional engineer with extensive experience in renewable energy and sustainable development. At the federal level, Browes guided the original Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) through the Parliamentary Committee and the House of Commons, held responsibility for all federal Great Lakes programs and was instrumental in preparing Canada for participation in the 1992 Rio Summit. More recently, she served as vice-chair of Ontario's Environmental Review Tribunal and remains an active member of several community and environmental advocacy organizations. Benjamin is the co-founder of BC Hydro's Power Smart initiative, having designed and marketed a number of Power Smart programs. Working for Natural Resources Canada, she developed important partnerships between public and private sectors for sustainability and energy efficiency, such as Energy Innovators and development of national program for diesel hybrid vehicles. She has continued her partnership-building work with the Vancouver Airport Authority and the Greater Vancouver Regional District, focusing on sustainable transportation and alternative-fuel vehicles. The two appointments were effective immediately upon confirmation last month by the Governor in Council.
