Domtar, Staples to make first FSC-certified papers available to mass market
MONTREAL, QUE-Domtar and Staples Business Depot/Bureau en Gros have embarked on a new partnership through which Domtar's EarthChoice(R) papers will be made available at all of Staples' 265 stores across Canada. The companies say this initiative will provide Canadian consumers the first complete line of high-grade, environmentally responsible papers certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and supported by leading environmental groups. The Domtar EarthChoice line consists of six FSC-certified products that meet the most popular paper needs. FSC statistics indicate that global paper consumption has more than tripled over the past 30 years and is expected to increase by another 50% by 2010. At the same time, InfoTrends reports that Canadians will have consumed in excess of 700,000 tonnes of copy paper this year. Clearly, Canada is far from becoming a paperless society, hence the importance of developing paper products that come from well-managed forests, Domtar and Staples point out.
