Federal Environment Minister Rona Ambrose has appointed David Chernushenko, Timothy R Haig and Dr. Mark Jaccard to the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE). The appointments, confirmed by the Governor in Council, are effective immediately. David Chernushenko, owner of Green & Gold and an associate of Arborus Consulting, is an expert on sustainable development, clean air, and active living. He has published three books on sustainable development and is also the co-founder of Clean Air Champions, an active lifestyles advocacy group. Timothy Haig is president and CEO of BIOX Corporation and chair of the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association. He has over 20 years of experience in strategic business development and financing with an emphasis on environmental technologies and engineering. Dr Mark Jaccard has been a professor at Simon Fraser University's School of Resource and Environmental Management in Vancouver, since 1986, except for his 1992-97 term as chair and CEO of the British Columbia Utilities Commission. Dr Jaccard has served on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the China Council, has headed several public inquiries written award-winning books on environment and energy-related policy.
Manitoba Premier Gary Doer recently announced confirmation by the cabinet of Donald Cook as deputy minister of Conservation. Cook, who was acting in this position, has 31 years of service and experience in Manitoba.
Environmental Management Solutions president and CEO Tony Busseri is among the parties named in a $17-million legal action initiated by Frank D'Addario and related parties in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. EMS claims the legal action pertaining to the company and its president is without merit and says it will defend itself vigorously.
