Wavefront process teamed with new tool to enhance remediation performance

EDMONTON, ALTA-Wavefront Energy and Environmental Services recently reported the successful field trial of its patented fluid flow technology, marketed as the Primawave(tm) process (formerly known as pressure pulse technology), in a contaminated site cleanup project. The field test was conducted for the U.S. military by Environmental Resources Management (ERM), a licensee of the Wavefront process, using a novel tool design known as the "Hornet." Recognizing that successful site remedial work depends to a large degree on precisely targeted subsurface injection of treatment liquids, ERM developed the Hornet to meet market demand for a low-cost, effective device with unlimited chemical compatibility for targeted delivery of remedial treatment liquids. At the field trial site, the Hornet successfully injected a mixture of magnesium sulfate (Epsom salts) and potassium nitrate for the treatment of benzene as well as emulsified edible oil for the indirect treatment of chlorinated hydrocarbons. Wavefront president and CEO Brett Davidson said ERM's use of the Primawave process together with the Hornet tool resulted in treatment liquids being injected "more uniformly and up to three to five times faster than traditional pressure injection." He further indicated his belief that "the success of the Hornet tool can leverage the Primawave process to companies who depend on the rapid and efficient placement of treatment remedies at multiple injection sites." Consequently, Wavefront plans to concentrate on licensing Primawave and Hornet tools to environmental consulting and service companies and is currently reviewing additional licensing options with other firms in this sector.
