Ontario standing committee to hold hearings on Clean Water Act
TORONTO, ONT-The Ontario government's Standing Committee on Social Policy has announced plans to hold hearings on the provincial Clean Water Act (Bill 43, An Act to Protect Existing and Future Sources of Drinking Water). The meetings will be held in Toronto, Walkerton, Cornwall, Bath and Peterborough during the week of August 21, 2006. Interested parties who would like to make an oral presentation on Bill 43 should contact the Committee clerk by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2006. Comments on the bill may also be submitted as written submissions to the Committee clerk; these are due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2006. The bill received first reading last December; its second reading was debated during April and May, and was carried on division May 18, after which it was referred to the Standing Committee on Social Policy.
