Incinerator owner, operator issued enforcement order
CALGARY, ALTA-An environmental enforcement order issued to Cristallo Engineering Technologies and Cristallo Holdings requires both parties to comply immediately with all terms and conditions of the existing approval for the biomedical waste incinerator they own and operate in the town of Beiseker, Alberta. The order also requires Cristallo Engineering Technologies and Cristallo Holdings to increase on-site environmental monitoring, temporarily modify plant operations and provide Alberta Environment additional data to further assess the operation. The enforcement order was issued after previous efforts by Alberta Environment to bring the company into compliance were unsuccessful. If the terms of the order are not met, further enforcement action can be initiated. Enforcement orders are issued under Alberta's Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and Water Act. They are intended to remedy environmental problems involving contravention of these acts, including failure to meet approval conditions.
