Broten, Béchard sign transboundary environmental accord
TORONTO, ONT-A highlight of the second annual Shared Air Summit was the signing on June 26 of a transboundary environmental agreement by Ontario Environment Minister Laurel Broten and Claude Béchard, Quebec Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, du Québec today signed a transboundary environmental agreement at the Shared Air Summit 2006. This signing launches a new era of bilateral environmental co-operation as the two provinces pledge to work together to find solutions to air quality and other environmental issues in Eastern Canada. The Agreement Concerning Transboundary Environmental Impacts will establish a formal information exchange and a joint co-operation protocol between the provinces on transboundary pollution issues. This includes air pollution, smog and climate change along with water management. This agreement follows the bilateral Protocol for Co-operation signed by the Premiers of Quebec and Ontario on June 2.
