Azure Dynamics to supply powertrains for Smith Electric Vehicles

TORONTO, ONT-Azure Dynamics has received a purchase order from Smith Electric Vehicles for 20 hybrid electric powertrain systems. The order follows up on a July 2005 supply agreement between the two companies calling for Azure to deliver up to 1,000 complete electric powertrains to Smith. Each powertrain system includes the drive, a power steering system, a system controller, a 12VDC supply, and other key driver interface components. Azure, which specializes in developing hybrid electric and electric powertrains for commercial and military vehicles, previously provided Smith ten powertrain systems and the two firms have collaborated on building demonstration vehicles. Smith Electric Vehicles, part of The Tanfield Group Plc, is the world's oldest commercial electric vehicle manufacturer. Advances in technology have given Smith's zero-emission Faraday model an increased top speed and range, making it well suited for the urban delivery market.
