Energy developers join forces on renewable power projects in western Canada, U.S.
CALGARY, ALTA-AltaGas Income Trust (AGIT) and GreenWing Energy Management have formed a limited partnership, called GreenWing Energy Development Limited Partnership (GEDLP), to develop a portfolio of renewable power projects in North America. GEDLP will initially hold ten proposed wind projects with the potential to develop a total capacity of approximately 800 megawatts (MW). The partners are focusing primarily on wind power generation projects in Western Canada and the Western U.S. and GEDLP has already entered into agreements with landowners for more than 70,000 acres. It has also responded to the call for Expressions of Interest issued by Manitoba Hydro for the province's expected request for proposals for 1,000 MW of wind energy. AltaGas has the right to finance up to 100% of the debt and equity of the projects, while GreenWing will manage the limited partnership and take the lead development role. Based in Vancouver, GreenWing is an independent power developer whose personnel have built, engineered, financed and operated a number of power generation facilities throughout North America. AGIT, an integrated energy infrastructure and services organization, announced its initial investment in renewable generation in January with the proposed Bear Mountain wind power project near Dawson Creek, in northeast BC.
