Tire recycling program offers grants to support use of used tire products

EDMONTON, ALTA-The Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) is accepting applications from municipalities and registered non-profit community groups and organizations until April 28, 2006 for grants of up to $25,000 to support the incorporation of recycled tire products into value-added community projects such as playgrounds, parks, buildings and walkways. ARMA, which manages the provincial tire recycling program, operates the Municipal Community Grant program in order to provide communities an opportunity to use and benefit from a wide range of recycled tire products. Since 2000, nearly $3.5 million has been returned to Alberta communities, funding 214 projects in 152 communities. Alberta's successful tire recycling program places a levy of $4 on each new tire purchase, with ARMA using the funds for the collection, transportation and recycling of used tires, in addition to communications and research. ARMA also manages Canada's only electronics recycling program for recycling TVs and computers.
