New Nova Scotia premier appoints Lunenburg West MLA to environment post
HALIFAX, NS-Nova Scotia's new premier, Rodney MacDonald, has appointed Carolyn Bolivar-Getson as Minister of Environment and Labour. She is also Minister responsible for the Workers' Compensation Act (except Part II). A small business owner and former municipal councillor, Bolivar-Getson is the MLA for Lunenburg West. She replaces Queens MLA Kerry Morash, who has been named Minister of Economic Development. First elected in 1999, Morash worked 18 years as safety co-ordinator for Bowater Mersey. MacDonald, who was part of the Nova Scotia cabinet as Canada's first-ever Minister of Health Promotion, succeeds John Hamm as premier following the latter's retirement.
