NRCan presents EnerGuide Awards to most fuel-efficient cars, light trucks
TORONTO, ONT-At the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto this month, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) presented the annual EnerGuide Awards to the manufacturers of the most fuel-efficient cars and light trucks for the 2006 model year. The EnerGuide Awards, administered by NRCan's Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE), are presented for vehicles in ten categories. The winning manufacturers and vehicles were: Honda Canada's Insight (two-seater car), Civic Hybrid (compact car) and Odyssey EX-L and Touring (minivan); Toyota Canada's Yaris (subcompact car-gasoline), Prius (mid-size car) and Matrix (a co-winner in the station wagon-gasoline category); Ford's Ranger (a co-winner in the pickup truck category) and Escape Hybrid (special purpose vehicle); General Motors' Chevrolet Express Cargo and GMC Savana Cargo (co-winners in the large van category) and Pontiac Vibe (a co-winner in the station wagon-gasoline category); Volkswagen's New Beetle TDI Diesel (subcompact car-diesel) and Jetta TDI Diesel Wagon (station wagon-diesel); and Mazda's B2300 (co-winner in the pickup truck category). The OEE has also released its annual Fuel Consumption Guide for 2006. The guide allows consumers to compare fuel consumption ratings and check carbon dioxide emissions of passenger cars and light-duty vehicles sold in Canada. It is available from participating new vehicle dealerships, motor vehicle licence agency offices, Canadian Automobile Association offices across Canada or on the Web at www.vehicles.gc.ca.
