Vision Quest merges with parent TransAlta, names new v-p as head
CALGARY, ALTA-TransAlta Energy, a subsidiary of TransAlta Corporation, reported recently that it has merged Vision Quest Windelectric, its wind energy business, into the mainstream of its operations in order to strengthen relationships between business units and enhance their alignment internally. Vision Quest had been operating as a separate subsidiary since its purchase by TransAlta Energy three years ago. Vision Quest is recognized as a leader in Canada's growing wind energy industry and this success has allowed the business to reach a maturity level where increased value can be brought to both organizations through integration, said TransAlta. Following the reorganization, Fred Gallagher, Vision Quest's CEO and managing director for the past 12 years, has moved into a new role within TransAlta as executive vice-president, gasification, responsible for exploring the potential for coal gasification for TransAlta. Gallagher served as chair of the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) which honoured him for exceptional achievement in 2004. Don Thomas has taken over as vice-president, Vision Quest; he will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and overall success of the wind business. Thomas was part of the acquisition team that successfully purchased Vision Quest in 2002 and has worked directly for the wind business as vice-president, business development since 2003. Finally, Vision Quest recently moved its offices; the new co-ordinates are PO Box 1900, Station M, 110 12th Avenue SW, Calgary T2P 2M1; 403/267-2000, FAX 403/267-2005.
