BC organic market to purchase wind power from Pembina Institute

VICTORIA, BC-Planet Organic Markets, a British Columbia-based natural and organic supermarket chain, has become a part of the growing number of businesses harnessing wind power. The company has signed an agreement to buy electricity from the Pembina Institute, a non-profit environmental organization based in Drayton Valley, Alberta and dedicated to sustainable energy solutions. The bulk purchase for 24-megawatt hours of wind energy is equivalent to 24 tonnes of CO2 emissions. This is equal to taking 20 average cars off the road for an entire year. Planet Organic and the Pembina Institute are working together to disseminate information on the benefits and options of wind power. A special staff and customer awareness and incentive program is being developed and will be rolled out over the next few months, focusing on Planet's Calgary store. More information is available on-line at www.planetorganic.ca or pembina.org.
