Waste Services to expand Florida operations with Tampa area landfill, transfer station purchase

BURLINGTON, ONT-Waste Services has signed definitive agreements to acquire two Florida companies, Liberty Waste and Sun Country Materials, for a total purchase price of $38.5 million (U.S.). Liberty Waste, a collection operation based in Tampa, has two transfer stations in Tampa and Clearwater. Both stations are permitted to accept construction and demolition and Class III wastes. Sun Country Materials owns a construction and demolition (C&D) landfill in Hillsborough County and is currently seeking an expansion permit for this operation. The acquisitions will complement and expand Waste Services' existing operations in the Tampa market. In addition, the combined collection operations of Waste Services and Liberty Waste will benefit from access to the acquired landfill for in-house disposal of their C&D waste volumes. The transactions are subject to customary closing conditions, and the landfill acquisition is subject to the receipt of the expansion permit. Waste Services is a Delaware corporation with Canadian headquarters in Burlington, Ontario. The firm provides solid waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services throughout the U.S. and Canada. More information is available on the company's Web site, www.wasteservicesinc.com.
