Northstar Aerospace faces litigation over environmental issues at Ontario plant

CAMBRIDGE, ONT-A Cambridge resident has filed a statement of claim in the Ontario Supreme Court of Justice against Northstar Aerospace and its subsidiary Northstar Aerospace (Canada). The statement alleges damages to property values suffered as a result of environmental issues relating to the historical operations of Northstar Aerospace (Canada)'s Cambridge, Ontario facility. The statement indicates that the plaintiff proposes to seek certification of the claim as a class action under the Ontario Class Proceedings Act on behalf of a number of other property owners in the immediate vicinity of the Cambridge facility. For its part, the company has been working with the Ontario Ministry of Environment and local authorities and residents on various environmental remediation issues relating to historical operation of the Cambridge facility and said it intends to continue co-operating. Both Northstar Aerospace (Canada) and its parent firm feel they have strong defenses to the claim and have referred the matter to their lawyers. The company manufactures aircraft gears, transmissions and related equipment at facilities in the U.S. and Canada.
