Quebec insurer offers extra 10% discount on hybrid vehicle premiums

LEVIS, QUE-Desjardins General Insurance (DGI) is introducing an additional 10% discount on its automobile insurance premium for hybrid vehicles. The initiative is in line with the sustainable development policy adopted by Desjardins Group and all its subsidiaries in October 2005. DGI is the property and casualty insurance arm of Desjardins Group. A greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory done in July 2005 by Quebec's Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks indicates that transportation sources account for 34.5% of the province's GHG emissions. "Under the circumstances, promoting the use of vehicles that have both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor is certainly a worthwhile strategy for reducing environmentally-damaging gas emissions," explained DGI president and CEO Jude Martineau. More information is available from Gina Perreault at DGI, 418/835-4900, ext 7532, E-mail gina.perreault@dgag.ca.
