Nfld begins public consultation on draft provincial energy plan
ST JOHN'S, NFLD-Province-wide public consultation meetings are being held over the next few weeks concerning the development of a comprehensive Energy Plan for Newfoundland and Labrador. The government is seeking feedback on a discussion paper released in November. This marks the most comprehensive energy policy review ever undertaken in the province. "Newfoundland and Labrador has significant renewable and non-renewable sources of energy which are attracting global attention," said Natural Resources Minister Ed Byrne. This initiative, of which the consultations are an important part, will help define the best policy direction for the development and use of these resources to ensure appropriate benefits to the province and its people, he added. Sessions have already been held in Labrador City, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Cartwright. The remaining eight meetings will be held in St John's on January 30, Clarenville on January 31, Marystown on February 1, Gander on February 2, Hawkes Bay on February 6, Stephenville on February 7, Corner Brook on February 8 and Grand Falls-Windsor on February 9.
