Consultations planned on full energy plan for Newfoundland & Labrador

ST JOHN'S, NFLD-A discussion paper released in November will be the basis of an extensive consultation process on the development of a comprehensive Energy Plan for Newfoundland and Labrador. Led by Premier Danny Williams and Natural Resources Minister Ed Byrne, the process is expected to begin early this year and will seek input from industry, interested groups and the general public. The issues raised in the discussion paper are presented following various themes and include: Security of Supply; Fossil Fuel Supply and Demand; Electricity Supply and Demand; Alternative Energy and Energy Conservation; Environment and Sustainable Development; Economic and Regional Development; Oil and Gas Exploration and Development; Energy Exports; and, Energy Sector Organization. The discussion paper is available on the Energy Plan Web site, www.gov.nl.ca/energyplan, where further information on public meeting schedules will be posted as it becomes available.
