Quebec zinc refinery earns certification to ISO 14001 standard

SALABERRY-DE-VALLEYFIELD, QUE-CEZinc, a zinc refinery in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield owned by Noranda Income Fund, has earned ISO 14001-2004 certification, the international standard for environmental management systems (EMS). The certification was granted following in-depth audits of the facility's EMS performed by the registrar QMI. It was the result of more than two years of sustained effort by CEZinc's environmental, technical and quality team, backed up by hundreds of employees in every level of the company. Their mandates were primarily to survey all the aspects of every process and activity capable of having significant environmental impacts and to define as well as implement appropriate measures to mitigate these impacts. The Noranda Income Fund was created to acquire Noranda's CEZinc processing facility and ancillary assets in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec. The facility is the second-largest zinc processing operation in North America and the largest zinc processing facility in eastern North America. It is operated and managed by Canadian Electrolytic Zinc.
