*Nova Scotia Premier John Hamm has appointed David Darrow deputy minister of the Department of Transportation and Public Works, succeeding Brian Stonehouse who retired as DM at the end of December. Darrow was previously CEO Sydney Tar Ponds Agency. The Agency's director of operations, Frank Potter, was named its acting CEO. Darrow, a specialist in transportation engineering, had headed the Tar Ponds Agency since February 2003. During his tenure there, the agency successfully negotiated a $400-million project funding agreement with the federal government and formulated a remediation plan for the tar ponds and coke ovens sites. Potter has been with the Tar Ponds Agency since 2001.
*New Brunswick Premier Bernard Lord recently named Saint John Portland MLA Trevor Holder Minister of Environment and Local Government, replacing acting Minister Dale Graham.
