Comments invited on Kemess North mining project EIA
OTTAWA, ONT-The joint review panel for the Kemess North copper-gold mine project in Northern British Columbia has opened a comment period on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) filed by the proponent, Northgate Minerals. The comment period, which runs to January 6, 2006, allows interested parties to comment on whether the EIA adequately addresses the requirements of the final EIA guidelines issued by the panel near the end of August. Northgate Minerals proposes to develop the Kemess North copper and gold deposit, six km north of its existing Kemess mine which is 250 km northeast of Smithers, BC. The project includes the development of a new open pit, modification of the existing mill and related infrastructure.
