EMS finalizes Toronto contract to process organics
BURLINGTON, ONT-Environmental Management Solutions (EMS) has finalized a three-year contract with the city of Toronto confirming the company's purchase order for the treatment and processing of 20,000 metric tons of source-separated organic waste (SSO) generated by Toronto's Green Bin program. It will add approximately $2 to $3 million in annual revenue for EMS, beginning in the third quarter of 2005 when the purchase order became effective. The contract will be carried out by EMS subsidiary GSI Environnement, which has more than 18 years of experience in managing and composting residual waste streams. The company recently received regulatory approval to significantly increase the capacity of three of its seven composting facilities, so that it can now treat approximately 700,000 tonnes annually. "This contract strengthens EMS' position as the market leader in organic waste composting in Ontario, with strong technical skills, rapidly growing capacity and an established reputation for responsible environmental practices," EMS president and CEO Tony Busseri. "We believe these strengths...give EMS a long-term competitive advantage in a key Canadian market," he added. More information is available from Tony Busseri at EMS, 905/335-2100.
