Alberta communities receive nearly $9M for environmental projects
EDMONTON, ALTA-Communities across Alberta will receive a total of $8.7 million from Alberta Environment to support 58 projects aimed at improving and preserving their environment. The funding will go toward a variety of projects including composting initiatives, new waste management and responsible waste handling projects, erosion prevention programs, and water management projects. The grants are provided on an "as needed" basis through Alberta Environment's waste management assistance, resource recovery and water management and erosion control programs. Examples of projects receiving support include: construction of a green space landscape buffer with a tree-planting program; establishment of a new recycling station; construction of a compost pad; upgrades to recycling facilities; modifications at two transfer stations to provide oil recycling capability; riverbank stabilization activities; upgrades to a landfill; and flood control work.
