Bennett authorized to accept contaminated soil from former Domtar site in Sydney
FREDERICTON, NB-Bennett Environmental has been authorized by New Brunswick's Department of Environment and Local Government to accept about 1,500 tonnes of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil from the former Domtar site in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The contaminated soil is coming from the cleanup of a storage tank that previously contained coal tar material from the former Domtar property on the coke ovens site in Sydney. The soil has been deemed acceptable for processing during commissioning of the Belledune facility and is well below the acceptance criteria stipulated in Bennet's draft operating approval. The company has been working for several months to obtain sufficient quantities of contaminated soil in order to complete commissioning and conduct testing on stack emissions.
