Petrolia pleads guilty to charges of failing to comply with order
SARNIA, ONT-The town of Petrolia recently pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to comply with a provincial officer's order issued under the Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA) and was fined $5,000, plus victim fine surcharge. Following a Ministry of Environment (MOE) inspection of Petrolia's municipal drinking water system in Lambton County in November 2002, the town was ordered to prepare a comprehensive operations and maintenance manual for the system and to prepare a yearly training schedule for all operators of the system. A follow-up inspection in February 2004 revealed that none of the required materials had been prepared, and the town was charged under Section 107(2) of the OWRA. A fine of $2,500 was levied on each count. The operations and maintenance manual and the training schedule have since been prepared.
