Ottawa, Alberta contribute $8M toward 59 new infrastructure projects

EDMONTON, ALTA-Through the Infrastructure Canada-Alberta program, $14.6 million will be directed towards 59 new projects in 51 communities across central and northern Alberta. The projects will focus on modernizing water and wastewater systems and cutting energy consumption through energy efficiency upgrades. Examples include construction of a water distribution system and wastewater collection system in Sturgeon County, and the installation of a water reservoir in the Town of St. Paul. The federal and Alberta governments will each contribute approximately $4 million towards the $14.6 million, with the proponents providing the remaining $6.6 million. This latest round of funding brings to 790 the total number of projects supported in Alberta under Infrastructure Canada-Alberta since the program agreement was signed in October 2000. Through the partnership, the two levels of government provide up to two-thirds of the funding for eligible project costs.
