Landowner ordered to remove soil, rocks from drainage ditch

GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALTA-A Beaverlodge area resident has been ordered by Alberta Environment to remove an obstruction, made of soil and rocks, from a drainage ditch flowing through private property. An environmental enforcement order issued by the department requires landowner Wolfgang Dittrich to: remove the obstruction from the water body immediately; ensure that the obstruction is completely removed to restore the free flow of water through the water body; provide reasonable notice to allow sufficient time to have an Alberta Environment employee on site to observe the removal; and keep all equipment and the material removed from the obstruction on-site. The order was prompted by public complaints that the obstruction was blocking drainage, causing upstream flooding of neighboring farmland.
