New chairs appointed for Mackenzie Valley boards
YELLOWKNIFE, NWT-Todd Burlingame, a resource management consultant based in Yellowknife, has been appointed the new chair for the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board (MVLWB). A graduate of the University of British Columbia with a BSc in geology, he has extensive experience in resource development in the Northwest Territories, having worked with the territorial government and Environment Canada before starting a consulting firm in Yellowknife. Most recently he served as the chairperson of the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board (MVEIRB). This post will now be filled by Gabrielle Mackenzie-Scott, who has been appointed MVEIRB chairperson for a three-year term, effective immediately. An instructor and researcher as well as a Tlicho First Nation member, Mackenzie-Scott joined the MVEIRB as the Tlicho nominee in September 2003 and was elected vice-chair in January 2004. She is an enrollment co-ordinator under the Tlicho Land Claim and Self-Government Agreement and has served as an administrator with Diavik Diamond Mines. The MVLWB is responsible for processing land use and water license applications for developments in the Mackenzie Valley of the Northwest Territories. The MVEIRB is responsible for conducting environmental assessments of developments in the valley.
