Tartan Energy ordered to clean up well sites

EDMONTON, ALTA-Tartan Energy has been issued two environmental protection orders by the Alberta government requiring the company to reclaim seven contaminated well sites near Legal, Alberta. The orders require Tartan Energy to: submit a full report on the extent and nature of contamination at the sites to Alberta Environment by April 4, 2005; file a report with the department by May 2, 2005 containing a work plan (including a schedule) for cleaning up any hydrocarbon or salt contamination on or under the sites; and submit a plan to the department by June 6, 2005 outlining how the company will reclaim the sites so that the land can be used for agricultural purposes in the future. The cleanup and reclamation plans must be approved by Alberta Environment before work can begin.
