Zenon to acquire German firms in membrane processing, filtration system fields

OAKVILLE, ONT-Zenon Environmental has announced plans to acquire, through a wholly-owned German subsidiary, Alpha Plan GmbH and Saxonia BioTec GmbH, both located in Dresden, Germany, for a total purchase price of up to ten million Euros. Alpha Plan, a private company, has been producing membrane processing equipment for over ten years. Saxonia BioTec, also a private company, specializes in the development of hollow fibres and production of disposable cartridges and system assembly for filtration and bioprocessing. By acquiring these companies, Zenon aims to further enhance its manufacturing processes in order to reduce costs in an increasingly competitive marketplace and enable expansion into new product lines. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2005. "We see these acquisitions as a complement to our ongoing research in technology and product development," said Zenon chairman and CEO Andrew Benedek.
