Hydro Ottawa achieves ISO 14001 registration
OTTAWA, ONT-Hydro Ottawa has attained ISO 14001 registration, recognizing the utility's development and implementation of an environmental management system (EMS). Adopting the EMS has allowed the company to better manage the impact of its activities on the local environment, providing the tools and processes required for improving environmental performance such as pollution prevention, meeting regulatory requirements and continuous improvement. "Hydro Ottawa's voluntary compliance with ISO 14001 plays an important role in raising the levels of quality, safety, reliability and efficiency of our operations," said Norm Fraser, vice-president of operations, adding that "this places Hydro Ottawa in a select group of Canadian utilities that have achieved such an accomplishment." Hydro Ottawa is the second largest municipal electricity distribution company in the Ontario, delivering electricity to more than 274,000 residential, commercial and institutional customers in the city of Ottawa and the village of Casselman.
