Nominations invited for 2005 Globe Awards
Nominations are being accepted until March 18, 2005 for the 2005 Globe Awards for Environmental Excellence, co-sponsored by The Globe Foundation of Canada and The Globe and Mail newspaper.
Established to recognize the contributions of Canadian enterprises to environmental excellence within and outside Canada, the awards are presented to extraordinary companies and industry groups who have embraced sustainable business strategies and, in doing so, have elevated the marketplace to new heights.
Awards are presented in the following categories:
Award for Excellence in Brownfield Redevelopment: presented to a local government or private sector company or consortium which has demonstrated outstanding leadership in transforming a brownfield site into a thriving, revitalized community or business area.
The Corporate Competitiveness Award: presented to a corporation with a proven record of environmental stewardship that has materially contributed to economic competitiveness through a commitment to environmental excellence.
The Corporate Award for Technology Innovation and Application: presented to a company which has demonstrated outstanding technical ingenuity in the development and/or application of an innovative technology or process with a significant environmental application.
The Industry Association Award for Environmental Performance: presented to an association representing an industry sector which has gone beyond regulatory compliance to develop a collective commitment to improved environmental performance through research, development and education in partnership with governments, non-governmental organizations, communities and other stakeholders.
The Capital Markets Award for Sustainable Investment & Banking: A new addition to the Globe Awards, this category represents an explicit recognition that financial markets are increasingly integrating environment factors into investment and banking decisions, and are directing more capital into sustainable technologies and ventures. Canadian fund managers, bank, brokers, venture capital companies and investment advisors are developing new financial instruments, analytical tools and targeted funds that merit consideration for this award.
The 2005 GLOBE Awards will be presented at the EECO Environment & Energy Conference gala luncheon on Friday May 27th, 2005 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto.
