Alcan subsidiary fined $50K for violation of Quebec dangerous materials regulation

QUEBEC CITY, QUE-Alcan Electrical Energy, a subsidiary of the aluminum producer Alcan, was fined $50,000 and levied a further $2,238 to cover analysis and other related costs after pleading guilty to a charge under Quebec's dangerous materials regulation. The charge related to a November 2002 release of mineral or synthetic oils from its generating station on the Saguenay river, contrary to section 8 of the regulation.
