Toby Vigod nominated ERT vice-chair
TORONTO, ONT-Toby Vigod has been nominated as vice-chair of Ontario's Environmental Review Tribunal (ERT), pending review by the provincial Standing Committee on Government Agencies. Vigod has more than 25 years of environmental and natural resource law experience, and has led policy development at senior executive levels in both the federal and provincial governments, as well as in non-governmental organizations. She has previously headed two environmental and forestry tribunals, presiding over more than 70 hearings. She has written more than 150 decisions, including decisions upheld by the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Supreme Court of Canada. The ERT hears applications and appeals under planing and environmental laws, including the Environmental Assessment Act, the Environmental Protection Act, the Ontario Water Resources Act and the Pesticides Act, as well as leave to appeal applications under the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993.
