Montreal disposal firm fined nearly $27K for 15 violations of permit terms

MONTREAL, QUE-Pierrefonds Environmental Enterprises was recently found guilty of 15 violations of the terms set out in the certificate of authorization for its Montreal area waste disposal site and was fined a total of $26,700. The offences, occurring between December 2000 and October 2001, violated section 123.1 of Quebec's Environmental Quality Act. Included among the charges laid were three counts of contravening certificate terms relating to the types of waste acceptable at tht site; four counts relating to the hours of operation for the site's dry materials depot; five counts of exceeding the maximum number of trucks allowed to deliver waste materials to the site daily; one count of failing to provide the Ministry of Environment information concerning the origin and analytical data for material used to cover waste at the site; and one count of violating a requirement that the level of liquid above the site's barrier system be lower than that of the waste.
