Alcan marks fourth appearance on DJSI

MONTREAL, QUE-For the fourth time in five years, Alcan has been selected as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World). The Index recognized Alcan as leading the aluminum industry in criteria ranging from codes of conduct, risk and crisis management, environmental policy and management to human capital development and standards for suppliers. The company's high ranking in the Index is also a testament Alcan's success in setting industry best practices in managing climate change issues, such as the development of its CO2 inventory and the Alcan Greenhouse Gas (GHG) strategy. As a further demonstration of its commitment, Alcan has joined the United Nation's Global Compact, a voluntary international initiative for businesses working to promote the development of a more sustainable and inclusive global economy. "There is no doubt in my mind that sustainability makes good business sense and our business progress this year demonstrates the point," said Alcan president and CEO Travis Engen. More information on Alcan's sustainability activities is available on its Web site, www.alcan.com. More information about the DJSI can be found at www.sustainability-indexes.com.
