Marsulex awarded sixth SO2 removal technology contract in China

TORONTO, ONT-A sixth contract for sulfur removal technology and related engineering at a Chinese power plant has been awarded to Marsulex's power generation group. The company will install its limestone-gypsum flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system on Units 3 and 4 of Hunan Huadian Shimen's power plant in Inner Mongolia in the People's Republic of China. The two units together generate 600 MWe. This project, due for completion in early 2006, is similar in size to one announced last month at the Baotou power plant (ELW September 13-20, 2004). As with the previous contracts in China, this latest won over international competitors and was awarded through Marsulex licensee China Huadian Engineering Company. Marsulex president and CEO David Gee said the Shimen project "brings our worldwide installed base of FGD systems to over 57,000 Mwe."
