Dofasco makes sixth appearance on DJSI World
HAMILTON, ONT-Dofasco has been listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the sixth year in a row. One of 13 Canadian companies listed, Dofasco is the only steelmaker in the world to be included on the DJSI World index. It is grouped within in the Basic Resources Sector of the index, which includes companies from the aluminum, precious metals, other non-ferrous metals and mining (diversified), industries. The sustainability ranking is based on environmental, social and economic performance, and includes more than 50 general and industry-specific criteria. The 2005 DJSI World Index becomes effective September 20, 2004, and includes more than 300 companies from 24 countries. "We believe our inclusion on the index is validation of our focus on sustainability and our commitment to the triple bottom line of environmental responsibility, social well-being and financial performance," said Dofasco president and CEO Don Pether. Dofasco is also a member of the FTSE4Good Index, a respected international Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) designation. This index lists companies that are working towards environmental sustainability, developing positive relationships with stakeholders and upholding and supporting universal human rights. The FTSE Group indices provides socially responsible investors exposure to companies that meet globally-recognized CSR standards.
